According to the head of St. Petersburg, almost half of the more than 1 thousand large and medium-sized enterprises located in the city work for defense tasksST. PETERSBURG, January 26.

/tass/. The Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, proposed to develop norms that would make it possible for their employees from among recent college graduates who are conscripted into the armed forces to undergo alternative civil service at defense enterprises.

"When we train specialists in colleges, practically, after graduating from college and working for some time at the enterprise, they are drafted into the army. There is a proposal, maybe it should be worked out. We have an alternative service. But today it is mainly connected with medicine and other areas - but it is not connected with our industry. Maybe we should consider [so that] it is possible [to] take an alternative service if a person goes to our defense complex after college?" Beglov said on Thursday at a meeting on the training of engineering personnel for shipbuilding, shipbuilding and the Navy, which was held by the Secretary of the Security Council (SB) of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev.

The governor suggested that in a situation of a shortage of qualified workers in industry, crediting work in the defense industry for alternative civil service would provide additional opportunities for securing employees at factories and improving their qualifications.

According to Beglov, almost half of the more than 1 thousand large and medium-sized enterprises located in St. Petersburg work for defense tasks. The number of people employed in urban industry in 2022 increased by 10%, while the shortage of workers remains, accounting for about 2/3 of the total need for specialists. According to Beglov, this year city colleges received 2.5 times more requests for their training than in the previous one. "We have significantly increased the number of budget places for the most popular professions in colleges. We have made a decision, this year we will build a new super college for 2 thousand students, mostly they will be given to technical specialties," the governor said.

He added that a pilot project has been launched in the city to obtain the first profession already at school - in specialized classes, children are taught such specialties as a chemical analysis laboratory assistant, an optical mechanic, a ship repairman. Graduates of schools, thus, together with the certificate can receive a certificate of professional training.

Alexander Drozdenko, the Governor of the Leningrad Region, also spoke about the implementation of a similar project in the neighboring region, who also took part in the meeting. He said that in addition to engineering classes that were previously opened in Sosnovo and Vyborg, four such classes will appear in one of the schools in Tosno in 2023, 28 million rubles have been allocated from the regional budget to equip them.

On Thursday, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev held a meeting in St. Petersburg on the training of engineering personnel for shipbuilding, shipbuilding and the navy. Instructions were given on the organization of additional professional training of corporate employees on a number of programs in the field of new equipment and technologies. The participants of the meeting considered the issues of professional development of the required number of specialists in digital technologies.

Following the meeting, decisions were made to ensure the systematic work of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, interested corporations, regional authorities and universities. The creation of a national network of technology centers based on regional universities and enterprises of high-tech industries will also continue.
