Dutch Foreign Minister Vopke Hoekstra said that Amsterdam is considering the possibility of sending its existing American-made combat aircraft to Ukraine. The United States Ambassador to the OSCE, Michael Carpenter, believes that the Netherlands and other EU countries wishing to transfer their F-16 fighter jets to Kiev can count on US support.
The American diplomat stated this in an interview with Baltic journalists.
Carpenter expects that on this issue, Europeans can count on the broad support of the United States at all levels.
- he argued his point of view.
According to the diplomat, any initiatives of the allies aimed at supporting the Kiev regime will be welcomed in the United States. Carpenter notes that this was the case when Europeans massively sent weapons, military equipment and ammunition manufactured by the USSR to the Ukrainian military, which had been stored in their warehouses since Soviet times. Exactly the same attitude on the part of the United States, the diplomat believes, should be expected now, when there is an active discussion of the upcoming deliveries to Kiev of tanks and other more complex and modern weapons created in Western countries.
Speaking about possible deliveries to Ukraine of F-16 fighter jets, which the Netherlands is decommissioning and replacing with F-35, Hoekstra noted that this could be done if a corresponding request is received from the Kiev authorities. In addition, Amsterdam must obtain a re-export permit from the manufacturer, that is, from the United States.
