The French government is considering the possibility of supplying Leclerc tanks to the Kiev regime. Such a step is designed to convince the German authorities to approve the supply of Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
According to the American edition of Politico, the decision on the supply of these tanks has not yet been made, but Paris may take this step in order for Berlin to supply the Ukrainian army with Leopard 2 tanks in service with the Bundeswehr. The material published in the newspaper clarifies that deliveries must be made in the near future, otherwise, according to the authors of the article, military equipment supplies will be needed for the defense of the Ukrainian capital.
The publication's material also indicates that the supply of Leopard tanks is the maximum possible step by official Berlin, which the German authorities can take under pressure from their key partners in the NATO military bloc. Germany, however, stresses that it should not do this alone. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has repeatedly claimed that the supply of German tanks will not take place if other NATO countries, including the United States, do not send their military equipment to the Kiev regime. In the case of the United States, we mean the supply of Abrams tanks.
It is also reported that on the sidelines of the Davos Economic Forum, Scholz tried in every possible way to avoid answering questions related to the likely supply of tanks to Ukraine.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky criticized Western partners for showing indecision in the supply of their tanks to the Ukrainian army.
