Iran will receive Russian multifunctional Su-35 fighters, the previously announced information was officially confirmed in Tehran. This is the first confirmation of the deal from Iranian officials.
A member of the Commission on National Security and Foreign policy of the Mejlis of Iran, Shahriyar Heydari, in an interview with the Iranian publication Tasnim, confirmed the purchase of Su-35 multi-purpose fighters and even called the delivery dates. According to the Iranian politician, the planes will start arriving at the beginning of next year according to the Iranian calendar, i.e. in two and a half months. The Iranian New Year begins on the day of the vernal equinox of the first spring month of Favardin. Thus, the 1402nd year in Iran will be celebrated on March 21, 2023.
In addition, Russia will supply Iran with helicopters, as well as some defensive systems and missiles. Shahriyar Heydari did not give details, so it is not known what kind of systems and missiles Tehran wants to receive. It is possible that we are talking about anti-aircraft systems, including the S-400. Military experts have the same opinion.
At the end of December last year, Israel announced that in the near future Russia would supply Iran with 24 Su-35 fighter jets, originally intended for Egypt, which Cairo refused under pressure from the United States. According to Western experts, it is the Su-35 that is the only fighter capable of fighting the American F-35s in service with the Israeli Air Force.
In early August 2022, it was reported that Tehran allegedly signed a contract for Russian Su-35s in July during a visit to Iran by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Then Western publications reported that Russia allegedly exchanged with Iran according to the scheme: "fighters for drones." But there have been no confirmations or denials from either Moscow or Tehran.
