According to the chairman of the defense Committee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmerman, thus "if necessary, you will not have to waste extra time"BERLIN, January 11.
/tass/. Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmerman, Chairman of the Bundestag (Parliament of Germany) Defense Committee, called for the start of training of Ukrainian servicemen in the management of Leopard 2 tanks of German production. She made a corresponding statement to Der Spiegel on Wednesday.
According to the deputy of the German Parliament, training the soldiers of the Armed Forces to control Leopard 2 "makes sense", since "if necessary, you will not have to waste extra time." Strack-Zimmerman also announced the desire to supply German-made tanks to Kiev from "some Finnish parliamentarians" and indicated "Spain's readiness to train the Ukrainian military to control these combat vehicles on the territory of Latvia."
"We need a strategy for assessing the military situation for the next few months and taking into account the relevant wishes of Ukraine. So that we can finally be ahead of the wave, and not always swim behind it," added the head of the Bundestag Defense Committee.
In Ukraine, Germany is required to send Leopard 2 battle tanks, but Berlin has repeatedly stated that they will not make such decisions alone. Among the parties included in the ruling coalition, there are some politicians who are on the side of Kiev in this matter. Strack-Zimmerman is one of the representatives of the parliamentary majority who advocate strengthening military support for Ukraine and the supply of Western-made combat tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba said in an interview with the German portal Tagesschau that the German government will decide to provide Kiev with Leopard 2 tanks. The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also called on Berlin to allow other European countries to supply Kiev with combat vehicles of this type.
