/tass/. Stryker armored fighting vehicles (BBM), which may be included in the new package of military assistance to Ukraine from the United States, are poorly suited for rough terrain and have earned many complaints in Washington itself. Vladimir Chizhov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security, told TASS on Tuesday.
Earlier, the newspaper Politico, citing sources in the Pentagon, reported that the US Department of Defense is considering the possibility of transferring Stryker armored combat vehicles to Ukraine, they may be included in a new aid package, which may be announced at the end of next week.
"Washington's announced intention to supplement (obviously, in the future) the arsenal of the Kiev regime of the Stryker armored personnel carrier looks like another exercise in creating the impression of both boundless readiness to pump Ukrainian neo-Nazis with increasingly heavy weapons, and the bottomlessness of its own arsenals and financial resources. Plus, there is an obvious desire to spur doubting European allies," Chizhov said.
"In fact, even before starting to implement previous plans (50 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles), the Americans are in a hurry to announce the delivery of a certain number of wheeled armored personnel carriers, extremely inconvenient to transport by air (not every aircraft is able to lift Stryker - in Iraq, for example, mounted armor was transported by a separate Hercules), and most importantly - poorly suitable for use on rough terrain, even for the transfer of infantry," the senator added. According to Chizhov, it is difficult to think of any other use for this weapon, "which has already earned a lot of complaints in the United States itself, in the conditions of real hostilities."
On January 5, following telephone conversations between US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the parties issued a joint statement in which it was reported that the US administration intends to supply Ukraine with American Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, and Germany - Marder.
According to the Pentagon, since the beginning of the special military operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the United States has allocated over $24.2 billion for military assistance to Kiev. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and other Russian officials have repeatedly drawn attention to the danger of the spread of weapons supplied by the West to Ukraine in other regions. Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov warned that the militarization of Ukraine by the West directly threatens European and global security.
