Ukraine may receive a batch of Marder infantry fighting vehicles from among those promised to the Greek army, the proposed supply of armored vehicles was discussed by the defense ministers of Greece and Germany. This is reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Greece.
The APU is already receiving Greek BMP-1 (BMP-1P) as part of a round-robin exchange with the participation of Germany, which promised to supply the Greeks with 40 German Marder BMP. The Greeks are shipping armored vehicles to Kiev, but they have not yet received the promised, and they are unlikely to receive them in the near future, given that Berlin has promised Kiev a large batch of the same Marder infantry fighting vehicles. There is nowhere for the Germans to take armored vehicles, unless they are from among those promised to Athens.
So German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht called her Greek counterpart Nikos Panagiotopoulos on Monday, January 9. The parties reportedly discussed the supply of Greek BMP-1s to Ukraine and the receipt by Athens of German Marder BMP. This is official, but unofficially it is assumed that the Germans want to negotiate with the Greeks on the postponement of deliveries in order to send the armored vehicles intended for them to Kiev.
- stated in the Greek military department.
Earlier, a number of German media put forward a version that Germany would transfer the "Greek" Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine, since there are simply no other options for the rapid delivery of the promised armored vehicles. Or Kiev will have to wait until the Germans restore some more cars for the transfer of the APU, and Zelensky is not satisfied with this, he needs "now" and "a lot".
