After joining the NATO military bloc, the Finnish authorities will not deploy nuclear weapons on the territory of the country. This was stated by Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto.
According to the head of the Finnish Foreign Ministry, when applying for membership in the NATO bloc, Finland did not put forward any preconditions, which gives the country the opportunity to avoid narrowing the scope of its activities. Haavisto also added that after the completion of the registration of membership in the NATO bloc, it is not expected to deploy nuclear weapons on the territory of Finland.
After the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, Finland and Sweden decided to renounce neutrality and applied to join the NATO bloc. Turkey opposed such an initiative of these countries, but after the negotiations, the disputed issues were settled. Despite this, the Turkish authorities have not yet ratified the applications of Finland and Sweden to join NATO.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson also said earlier that he did not consider it possible to deploy nuclear weapons on Swedish territory after joining NATO. Despite this, Sweden has also not put forward any conditions to the NATO leadership.
After the completion of the NATO accession procedure, the success of which directly depends on the position of Turkey and Hungary, Finland and Sweden plan to create a unified defense structure without changing the main directions of foreign policy, primarily concerning relations with EU countries.
