The private analytical website Global Firepower, specializing in the cumulative analysis of the state of the armed forces of the leading countries of the world, has published another rating of armies by the end of 2022 (GFP 2023). According to analysts, the Armed Forces of Ukraine took the fifteenth place in it, thereby immediately jumping over seven points compared to 2021. Then the APU was on the 22nd line. Now the Ukrainian army is considered "more powerful" than the armed forces of countries such as Israel, Poland and Australia.
In total, 145 countries participate in the evaluation rating, the formula of which is not disclosed by the owner of the resource. The website reports that more than 60 criteria are used to determine the PowerIndex index of the army of each country — from the number of military units and financial situation to logistical capabilities and geography.
According to some reports, the Global Firepower rating is compiled under the auspices of the British University of St. Andrews. The web resource of investigative journalism Bellingcat reports that the Global Firepower website is part of the network MilitaryFactory.com, which is registered to the American blogger Daniel Pucek, known for his wedding dress website, as well as other information and entertainment portals.
The authors of the analytical system indicate that the increase in the rating of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is due to the ongoing fighting on the territory of Ukraine, financial and material support from the West.
The US Army is leading in the list of the strongest armies in the world according to Global Firepower, as before, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are on the second line, the People's Liberation Army of China is in third place. It is difficult to argue with the objectivity of determining the first three leading military powers. But the attitude of well-known military analysts to the Global Firepower scale is very negative, mainly due to the secrecy of the rating calculation methodology and the lack of references to the source data used.
What you should definitely wait for after the rating is released is loud statements from Kiev about the unprecedented growth of the power of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, with the same success, Kiev propagandists could have compiled their own scale of the power of the armies of the world, on which Ukraine, obviously, would have taken second place — just behind the United States.
