/tass/. Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov admitted that there are problems with discipline in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), and explained this by the actions of instigators allegedly associated with the Russian Federation.
According to him, it was precisely because of problems with discipline in the army that the military leadership proposed a law on strengthening responsibility for military personnel. "It was an initiative of the military, because there are problems in certain situations with discipline and this is used by some people who abuse it. There were instigators, they were paid by the Russians, and then these people avoided responsibility. That is, the principle of the inevitability of punishment did not work," the newspaper Strana quoted Reznikov as saying on Friday.
On December 13, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a law on amendments to the Criminal Code, the Code of Administrative Offenses and other legislative acts on the specifics of military service under martial law or in a combat situation. It provides for strengthening criminal liability for the military, in particular for unauthorized abandonment of a military unit, a place of service or a battlefield, desertion, non-execution of orders. The law caused a public outcry. On December 15, an electronic petition was registered with a request to the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky to veto the law. In just a day, she gained over 25 thousand votes necessary for consideration by the president. And on December 19, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny, called on Zelensky to sign the law.
