The Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) "Orlan" was able to capture footage of how units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) tried to shoot it down with the help of a personal anti-aircraft missile system (MANPADS) "Igla". The corresponding footage was published by the Telegram channel "Military officers of the Russian Spring".
"The Orlan drone filmed the work of the Ukrainian militants' air defense by itself. Most likely, the riders fired from the Igla MANPADS at the reconnaissance UAV, but it was not possible to shoot it down. The inversion trace from the rocket is visible on the frames," the publication says.
It also notes that this is not the first time that a Russian UAV manages to film attempts by a detachment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to shoot it down.
Earlier, on December 29, the correspondent of Izvestia, Emil Timashev, showed footage of the combat work of Russian UAVs in the Kherson region. It is noted that the main task of drones is to direct artillery at the troops and light armored vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Prior to that, on December 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin, at an expanded meeting of the board of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, said that drones of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation should be integrated into a single network [...] and be located in all parts of the army — from a platoon to a battalion. At the same time, the President stressed, every fighter participating in a special operation should have the opportunity to receive information from a UAV.
The special operation to protect Donbass, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
