Polaris Dawn Mission In March 2023, SpaceX plans to launch the Polaris Dawn mission.
It will be innovative in many ways: astronauts will test the Starlink laser communication in space, conduct several dozen scientific experiments and make a commercial spacewalk. In addition, the flight will take place in a record high orbit. But this is where the list of unusual plans of the company ends. The mission crew members will be pre-trained in the basics of medicine using special gaming applications.
To organize the training, specialists of the Level Ex gaming company were involved. SpaceX's approach is very unusual, but it is justified by the fact that this is the only opportunity to prepare the crew qualitatively in a short time. A group of people forced to stay for a long time without any help from Earth cannot rely on just one doctor included in the mission. The risk that he himself may need medical assistance, and there will be no one to provide it, is quite high. That is why it was decided to give the necessary stock of medical knowledge and skills to all Polaris Dawn astronauts. Interestingly, all Polaris Dawn training applications are designed to run on mobile devices. Despite this, they are very informative, and training with their help is quite effective. The main focus of the training is on the practical use of various ultrasound devices as the only available diagnostic method in space conditions. The advantage of the programs used is the real-time simulation technology.
