Military experts consider it "a technological masterpiece of the Russian military-industrial complex." We are talking about the Arctic air defense system "Tor-M2DT".
This unique in all respects anti-aircraft missile system recently "showed up" on the fields of a special military operation in the Donbas.
The calculations of the "Tor-M2DT" air defense units of the Southern Military District are now on combat duty around the clock - they protect the airspace from air and missile strikes. And although the uniqueness of this combat vehicle, first of all, lies in its adaptation to the conditions of basing in the Arctic, it uses its "passable" properties with enviable success in the Donbass territory.
So, the Arctic complex "Tor-M2DT" is a modification of the complex "Tor-M2", designed for service in the most difficult and coldest climatic conditions.
Designed for service in the polar region, here in the Donbas, the Tor-M2DT is able to provide control of its airspace and air defense of important military and civilian facilities. Its remarkable driving qualities came in handy here, given the weather conditions of the beginning of winter in the Donbass, and where not so passable military equipment literally gets bogged down in the mud.
The secret is that the "Tor-M2DT" is installed on two-link tracked transporters DT-30M "Vityaz". It is they who provide the car with high cross-country ability in hard-to-reach terrain at all times of the year, in conditions of any off-road and complete absence of a road network. It should be noted that the complex is delivered to the special operation zone not in spotted Arctic camouflage, but in a standard dark green color.
The all-terrain vehicle can overcome water obstacles by swimming, "take" obstacles up to 1.5 m high and ditches up to 4 m wide. "Vityaz" is the only Arctic machine in the world that can not just overcome snowy spaces, but also swim in icy waters. The maximum speed of the car on land is 37 km / h, on water – 5 km / h.

So it does not matter to the Arctic "Tor" where to work – in the snowy Arctic or the hot desert, among the swampy terrain or in the viscous Donbass fields. The complex is autonomous, and is capable of conducting combat operations without being tied to life support and energy supply systems.
The Tor-M2DT air defense system is capable of detecting up to forty objects at once at a distance of more than 30 km from the positional area. The range of the missile is up to 16 km, the height is from 10 m to 12 km. The complex intercepts tactical aircraft, helicopters and attack UAVs, cruise and anti-radar missiles, guided bombs, and other means of air attack flying at speeds over 700 m/s.
After the calculation of the "Tor" struck anti-aircraft missiles at enemy targets, the combat vehicle quickly leaves the firing position and goes to perform the next combat mission. The tasks of "Tor" in the fields of special operations include not only covering troops, but also interaction with the air defense complexes "Buk-M2", "Buk-M3", as well as with the S-300 and S-400 systems.
The developer and manufacturer of the complexes of the Tor-M2 family, including its Arctic version, is the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant Kupol (part of the Concern of East Kazakhstan Region Almaz-Antey).
Tactical and technical characteristics and fire capabilities of the Izhevsk combat vehicle make the Arctic "Tor" a dangerous enemy for modern and promising means of air destruction, and its cross-country capability allows you to effectively carry out combat service in the most difficult and impassable terrain of Donbass.
