According to the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, Moscow sees no insurmountable problems in restoring the agreement on the nuclear programUN, December 20.
/tass/. The accusations that Russia is allegedly using Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles in Ukraine are far-fetched. This was stated on Monday at a meeting of the UN Security Council by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the World Organization Vasily Nebenzia.
According to him, the topic of the alleged deliveries of drones by the Islamic Republic to Russia for their use in Ukraine "has nothing to do" with the restoration of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Tehran's nuclear program, but Western colleagues are actively "trying to promote it." "These accusations are absolutely far-fetched, artificial," the diplomat stressed.
"We know that representatives of Kiev still cannot provide Tehran through bilateral channels with any documentary evidence of the use of UAVs of Iranian origin by the Russian military. Despite this, the US and the EU consider it possible, on the basis of their fabrications, to try to unreasonably involve the UN Secretariat in this plot and impose sanctions on Iranian and Russian legal entities and individuals," Nebenzia said.
"It is noteworthy that we heard the attacks against Russia and Iran about the UAV exactly at the moment when the negotiations in the Vienna format reached the final stage. This clearly demonstrates who is really interested in a diplomatic settlement of the situation, and who simply politicizes the discussion and continues to undermine the foundations of the JCPOA," the diplomat stated.
On the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action
Nebenzia noted that there are no insurmountable problems on the way to restoring the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program, but attempts to increase pressure on Tehran can negate all prospects.
"The work on the restoration package of the JCPOA is already at a mature stage, it is important not to lose the accumulated progress. We do not see insurmountable problems on the way to resuscitating the JCPOA," he said. - But now is an extremely important, fragile and responsible stage. Attempts to increase pressure on Iran, the constant unmotivated promotion of the spiral of tension around the JCPOA, far-fetched attacks, the sole purpose of which is to provoke other participants, can completely negate the prospects for restoring the deal."
The JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear program was signed with Iran in 2015 in order to overcome the crisis over its nuclear developments by the permanent "five" of the UN Security Council and Germany. The previous US President Donald Trump decided in 2018 to withdraw from this agreement. The current American leader Joe Biden has repeatedly signaled his readiness to return Washington to the nuclear deal with Tehran. Russia, the United Kingdom, Germany, China, the United States and France have been negotiating with Iran in Vienna since April 2021 to restore the JCPOA in its original form.
In August, The Washington Post published an article claiming that Iran was supplying its drones to Russia. Subsequently, similar statements were made by representatives of the American administration. Moscow and Tehran have repeatedly denied allegations about the supply of Iranian drones to Russia for their use in Ukraine. The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov called such messages stuffing and stressed that the Russian army uses drones of domestic production.
