Military observer Litovkin: the Irony complex helps artillery to deliver effective strikes against the enemyOn December 19, military observer Viktor Litovkin told Izvestia about the technical characteristics of the multifunctional optical-electronic complex "Irony", which Russian troops are using in the Kupyansk direction.

"This is an artillery guidance reconnaissance device. There is an optical device that sees at a distance of up to 5 km, there is electronics that can fix an object that is detected, determine the distance to it, its coordinates and transmit information to an artillery or multiple launch system point," the expert said.

Litovkin added that the Irony complex is effective under different weather conditions, for example, in fog or rain.

"This is a very good complex, because it works both in fog and rain, it is all-weather, and it can work at night. It helps the artillery to deliver effective strikes against the enemy. It can be stationary, move by car, or it can be portable," the observer concluded.

Earlier in the day, a special-purpose fighter of the Western Military District said that in the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops are using the Irony complex to target and shoot strikes against Ukrainian militants .

In this variant, the military uses a portable surveillance device. As the source explained, the complex is equipped with a thermal imager and a laser rangefinder, which allows you to monitor, collect information about the area and identify various objects. In addition, the device has a video recording mode.

On December 15, Russian troops thwarted an attempted attack by Ukrainian militants in the Kupyansk direction, killing up to 35 people. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation clarified that the attempt to attack the AFU was thwarted by preemptive artillery fire and heavy flamethrower systems, as well as army aviation strikes in the direction of the settlement of Sofiyivka of the Luhansk People's Republic.

Since February 24, Russia has been conducting a special operation to protect Donbass and demilitarize Ukraine. The decision was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the LPR and DPR as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military.
