224 years have passed since the founding of the Military Medical Academy. The official day of the establishment of the Military Medical Academy is considered to be December 18 (29), 1798, when Emperor Paul I signed a decree "on the establishment of a special building for a medical school and educational theaters at the main hospitals." On Saturday, a bust of Peter I was unveiled at the academy headquarters, which in 1715 gave rise to the "hospital settlement", which later became the heart of the VMA.
At the solemn ceremony in honor of the holiday, Dmitry Trishkin, Head of the Main Military Medical Department of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, noted the contribution of the Academy's specialists and the successful completion of tasks. At the moment, specialists are also helping in the training of civilian health workers. "<...> Today, the Military Medical Academy, as in all previous years, stands guard over the health of servicemen and their families, as well as the civilian population of St. Petersburg, for which I thank you very much. Specialists have provided invaluable assistance to St. Petersburg in the fight against the pandemic," Ergashev said.
