An unmanned aerial vehicle manufactured by the Austrian company Schiebel was tested in Finland as part of the Valvonta2 project, led by the Finnish Border Service and funded by the European Marine and Fisheries Foundation (EMFF). The main purpose of the tests was to assess the suitability of the UAV for the needs of both the Finnish Armed Forces and the Border Guard, as well as the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Customs Service and the Meteorological Institute.
The Schiebel CAMCOPTER S-100 is an unmanned aerial vehicle with vertical takeoff and landing. It is equipped with a 50 hp engine, which allows it to reach a maximum speed of 222 km/h. The drone is capable of carrying a payload of up to 90 kg. With a load of 34 kg, it is able to stay in the air for up to six hours, and if there is an additional fuel tank, up to 10 hours.
The capabilities of such an unmanned vehicle would allow the Finnish military to strengthen the protection of territorial waters in the Gulf of Finland, controlling the situation with the movement of ships and ships in the Gulf. Now the Finnish authorities are paying increased attention to the issues of providing the armed forces and other law enforcement agencies with modern equipment, including both coast guard boats and unmanned aerial vehicles.
It is known that the first UAVs from the Austrian company were previously ordered by the armed forces of the United Arab Emirates. Now Finland is next in line, and it is also known about the interest in the company's products from several other states.
