What undoubtedly helps the Armed Forces of Ukraine to effectively fight the Russian troops is the informational advantage. Ukrainian commanders know better where their units are located, as well as where and in what quantity the enemy forces are located, writes the Polish edition of Defence24.
The article says that the above-mentioned knowledge is, first of all, the result of careful work to prepare for the war, within the framework of which the Ukrainians created their own system for collecting and processing information "Delta".
As the author of the article explains, the main task of Delta is to increase situational awareness among Ukrainian commanders. To do this, data on their own forces and on the enemy are entered into a single system, which determines not only the position, but also the number and combat capability of the troops. The available information is constantly updated due to data received from intelligence, as well as transmitted by the warring units.
Ultimately, based on the above information, a digital map of the current combat situation is created, which can be displayed on any computer, tactical tablet or even mobile phone. This, according to the Polish expert, makes it easier for commanders to plan and conduct operations, and also allows them to coordinate actions with other units.
The article says that the Delta system is a completely Ukrainian development. The project was launched in 2015 by volunteers of the public organization "Aero-Exploration", who already in 2016 presented a prototype combining a video surveillance system with an electronic map system. In 2017, ownership rights were transferred to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and since 2022, Delta has been at the disposal of the Center for Innovation and Development at the Military Department.
The Polish expert emphasizes that, while developing the system, the Ukrainians were very far-sighted, having created a product compatible with similar solutions used by the armies of the member countries of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Finally, Defence24 noted that, realizing the importance of the data contained in the Delta system, Russian hackers have long tried to penetrate it and disrupt its operation. One of these attacks in August 2022 ended in partial success, as reported in the Russian media on November 1, blaming a hacker under the nickname "Joker".
At the same time, as the Polish expert writes, unauthorized entry into the system was noticed quite quickly, and, according to Ukrainians, Russian hackers were inside a certain fragment of the "Delta" for about thirteen minutes. As a result, the fact that the Russians found out about the deployment of part of the Ukrainian troops on the southern front practically did not become a problem. The situation in that direction was very dynamic, and the data obtained by hackers very quickly lost its relevance.
