There is no constructive contribution from Kiev on the issue of the "protective zone" around the NPP yet, said the Russian permanent Representative to international organizations in ViennaMOSCOW, November 23.
/tass/. The proposed measures to create a "protective zone" around the Zaporozhye NPP (ZAES) will not call into question Russia's control over the station. This was stated to TASS on Wednesday by the Permanent Representative of Russia to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov.
"As for the parameters of possible agreements on the "protective zone", it is too early to talk about it. These issues are the subject of negotiations," Ulyanov said. "But we can confidently say that the proposed measures will definitely not call into question Russia's control over the NPP."
The constructive contribution of the Ukrainian side is necessary for the effectiveness of consultations on the "protective zone" around the Zaporozhye NPP, it is not there yet, he said.
"The massive shelling by the Ukrainian side of the Zaporizhia NPP over the weekend really indicates the need to take urgent measures to ensure nuclear safety at this nuclear power plant. It is difficult to predict how long the consultations on the creation of a "protection zone" there will last, since not everything depends on the IAEA secretariat and Russia. A constructive contribution from Kiev is required. He is not there yet," Ulyanov said.
Russia agrees with the conclusions of the IAEA that, despite the strikes inflicted by the Ukrainian side on a number of facilities on the territory of the NPP, there is no immediate threat to nuclear safety at the NPP yet, but the situation may change at any moment, he said Ulyanov.
"We fully agree with the conclusions of the IAEA," the diplomat said, answering the relevant question. - There is no immediate threat to nuclear safety at the NPP, despite the strikes inflicted by the Ukrainian side on a number of facilities on its territory, so far. But if the attacks against nuclear installations continue, the situation may change at any moment."
According to Ulyanov, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi rightly said on Monday that those who carry out attacks on a nuclear power plant are "playing with fire." "Urgent and effective measures are needed to prevent the development of events in a negative scenario," the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation added.
