/tass/. New Zealand will increase financial assistance to Kiev and extend the training program for Ukrainian servicemen. This was announced on Monday by the government of the country.
"The New Zealand government is expanding support for [Ukraine] <...> as part of its response to the Russian invasion. The training program for AFU soldiers by New Zealand servicemen will be extended, in addition, additional funding will be provided for [the purchase of] equipment, ammunition and food," Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta and Defense Minister Pini Henare said in a joint statement.
The program of military training of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces, launched by the Ministry of Defense of New Zealand on May 23, will be extended until July 31, 2023. It is planned that from November 30, 186 officers of the New Zealand Armed Forces will train the Ukrainian military in the UK. Another 12 employees of the Ministry of Defense will transmit intelligence data to the APU, eight military personnel will be deployed in one of the European countries.
New Zealand will also contribute 1.85 million New Zealand dollars ($1.1 million) to the NATO trust fund for the purchase of "additional non-lethal weapons and ammunition", winter uniforms, food rations, mobile power generators, ambulances and first aid kits for Ukraine.
Earlier, the New Zealand Ministry of Defense sent a C-130 Hercules aircraft to transport and distribute military aid to Ukraine. Of the 33 million New Zealand dollars allocated to Kiev, 17.5 million New Zealand dollars (about $11 million) were intended for the purchase of weapons and ammunition.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a request from the leaders of the Donbass republics for help. The United States and its allies then imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia and began supplying weapons to Kiev.
