The United States will build a small modular nuclear reactor on the territory of Ukraine, the decision has already been made, Ukrainian Ambassador to Washington Oksana Markarova said.
Washington and Kiev have launched a pilot project for the construction of a small modular reactor on the territory of Ukraine, where this reactor will be located, it is not reported. On the part of the USA, the Argonne National Laboratory, which is a research center of the US Department of Energy, participates in the project, on the part of Ukraine - Energoatom, NSDC and the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety. A number of American companies also act as partners. There are no other details yet.

Small modular rectors are smaller than standard reactors and have less power, but they have one advantage - they can be installed in hard-to-reach places where it is impossible to build a conventional nuclear power plant.
It is worth noting that back in 2021 Zelensky announced plans to localize the production of the latest SMR-160 nuclear reactors developed by the American company Holtec under the control of the US Ministry of Energy in Ukraine. At the same time, he stressed that "the production of such systems as small modular reactors is within the capabilities of Ukrainian industry."
