The head of Roscosmos said that in 2022 a mechanism for implementing the agreement on the creation of a common orbital grouping of Earth remote sensing spacecraft was createdMOSCOW, November 9.
/tass/. The implementation of the agreement on the creation of a common orbital grouping of Earth remote sensing spacecraft (ERS) of the BRICS countries will ensure their sustainable socio-economic development. This was stated by the head of Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov, at a meeting of the heads of the space departments of the countries of the association, as quoted by the press service of the state corporation.
"This year, a mechanism for the implementation of the agreement has been created: a joint committee for cooperation in the field of space and a corresponding working group have been formed, authorized organizations have been appointed to ensure ongoing interaction on satellite imagery of the declared territories and the exchange of received data," Borisov said in a welcome video message to the participants of the forum on the use of the remote sensing satellite grouping of the BRICS countries, which was held on 8 November.
The forum was also attended by Zhang Kejian, Head of the Chinese National Space Administration, Carlos Augusto Teixera de Moura, President of the Brazilian Space Agency, Somanath Sridhara Panicker, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization, Andiswa Mliswa, Acting Director General of the South African National Space Agency, and Niklas Hedman, Acting Director General of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs.
According to Borisov, the next stage of cooperation within the framework of the agreement could be the coordination of the activities of the BRICS countries in processing the results of space surveys and the exchange of experience in the creation and use of applications for their application.
The head of Roscosmos stressed that the possibility of implementing joint space programs largely depends on the international situation. "In this regard, I think it is important to emphasize the need to bring the positions of the BRICS countries closer together and coordinate efforts to promote them at international and regional forums, primarily in the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and its subcommittees, on the entire spectrum of scientific, technical and legal issues affecting our common interests," Borisov said..
The agreement on cooperation in the field of orbital grouping of remote sensing satellites of the BRICS countries was signed by the heads of the space departments of the participating countries on August 18, 2021. It involves the exchange of data from the grouping of remote sensing satellites of the BRICS countries, which will help solve the problems of climate change, environmental protection and elimination of the consequences of natural man-made disasters.
