They can be delivered in the near futureWASHINGTON, November 4.
/tass/. The US administration has sent eight NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMs) to Ukraine, which can be delivered in the near future. This was announced on Friday by US Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy John Plum.
"As for the NASAMS complexes [for Kiev], I think there are about eight systems on the way. I don't know exactly where they are in the [supply] chain right now, but they are on their way. And I think this is important," he said, speaking at a seminar at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington.
According to Plum, Ukraine will face serious problems when implementing anti-missile systems on its territory. "It is obvious that anti-missile systems are needed for protection. I think one of the problems that Ukraine is facing is that it will not be able to provide comprehensive protection. You can't have a shield. And if you had 10, or 20, or 30 systems, where would they go? What will you protect? This is a problem of decision-making in the field of defense. It is quite difficult to do this in peacetime, not to mention conflicts," the Assistant Defense Minister said.
On Tuesday, The New York Times reported that instructors from Norway are completing the training of about 100 Ukrainian servicemen in Germany to work with NASAMS. The publication noted that the course lasted about two weeks and will end in the next few days.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a request from the leaders of the Donbass republics for help. After that, the West imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia and increased the supply of weapons and military equipment to Kiev in the amount of tens of billions of dollars.
