Enemy drones are destroyed by an electromagnetic pulse, the source told TASS MOSCOW, October 17.
/tass/. The latest hand-held systems for combating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) "Harpoon-3" are successfully used by the Russian military during a military operation in Ukraine. This was reported to TASS by a source in the law enforcement agencies.
"Russian units are successfully using the latest hand-held anti-drone systems "Harpoon-3" during the military operation. Enemy drones are destroyed by an electromagnetic pulse," he said.
According to him, the complexes show high efficiency of application and are convenient to use. "It is enough to point the antenna of the device in the direction of the drone - and the electronics of the aircraft are deprived of the ability to determine the location, the communication of the drone with the operator is also interrupted," the agency interlocutor noted, adding that false alarms are practically excluded when using this mobile weapon.
He did not specify in which specific areas of the special operation such a technique is used.
TASS has no official information on this matter.
Previously, the combat use of such anti-UAV complexes during a military operation was not officially reported. In July, a TASS source reported that for the first time in Ukraine, electromagnetic complexes "Stupor" were used.
About the complex
Harpoon complexes were developed by Automation and Programming Technologies. A few years ago, the first sample was presented. Since 2019, an improved Harpoon-2M complex with improved characteristics and new functions has been demonstrated at exhibitions. "Harpoon-3" was first shown at the MAKS-2021 air show.
The complex is made in the form of an "anti-drone gun". The design is divided into an instrument compartment with controls and an antenna device covered with a casing. According to open sources, the length of the device is over 1 m, the weight is 6.5 kg.
"Harpoon-3" can be used as a manual "weapon" or as part of a stationary system. The product can be mounted on a special machine with guidance drives in two planes and with remote control. This allows the operator to simultaneously control several "guns" distributed over a certain territory.
Aiming the complex at the target is carried out visually and within the line of sight. The range reaches 3.5 km, at high frequencies - up to 2 km. The complex's memory stores information about various UAVs and data on combating them. "Harpoon-3" can work continuously for about 60 minutes from its own battery.
