/tass/. The authorities of Western states are preparing a list of measures to counteract panic among the population and the hype of buying food in case Russia allegedly uses nuclear weapons in Ukraine. This was reported on Saturday by the British newspaper The Times.
The publication refers to a high-ranking official of one of the Western countries, who during a briefing for journalists on condition of anonymity confirmed that work in this area is underway. According to the newspaper, it may be about measures to combat panic buying of food and essential items in stores and pharmacies, as well as the publication of brochures with instructions on what to do in the event of a nuclear strike.
"As one would expect, the government is prudently making plans designed for different scenarios, and this is one of them," the official said.
According to the source, in his country, the current situation "is not considered a nuclear crisis." He also repeated the position previously voiced by the leadership of the United States, Great Britain and other countries, saying that the use of nuclear weapons would be a violation of the taboo in force since 1945 and would lead to "the most serious consequences both for Russia and for all other" states of the world.
The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov previously noted that Western leaders practice nuclear rhetoric every day, and stressed that Russia does not want to take part in these exercises.
