The US military, who took part in testing Microsoft's augmented reality headset, criticized the device. This is reported by Bloomberg.
The agency had at its disposal a 79-page report on the tests of Microsoft's AR headset, which is being tested by the US army. The document says that the IT giant should upgrade the device in accordance with the wishes and eliminate the shortcomings. The gadget was tested in May-June.
Thus, more than 80 percent of military personnel began to experience discomfort, headache or nausea less than three hours after starting using Microsoft HoloLens. Experts said that developers are obliged to give priority time to improvements — for example, to improve the sensors of smart glasses in low-light conditions, the clarity of the display and the overall quality of the design.
At the same time, the US military does not consider the headset from Microsoft hopeless. So, the average time between failures in comparison with the early version of HoloLens in the new device has increased significantly. In some cases, the headset has improved navigation and coordination of units.
Augmented reality glasses are being introduced into the US Army as part of the Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) program. Within ten years, the US Army plans to spend up to $ 21.9 billion on equipping wearable devices.
In mid-March, it became known that the US Congress had deprived the US military of augmented reality glasses developed under the IVAS program. The use of funds will be allowed after the completion of preliminary tests.
