"We went to the point, saw the goal. It was very big. They took her on the machine. The launch is immediate. Immediately shot down and rolled to another position. We only found out the next day that it was the twenty-fifth "drying"," says the operator of the guidance of the Osa-AKM anti-aircraft missile system.
Today, the calculations of the military anti-aircraft missile systems "Osa-AKM" of the air defense units of the Armed Forces of Russia on a daily and round-the-clock basis perform combat tasks of covering motorized rifle units from enemy air attack in the zone of a special military operation in Ukraine.
Carrying out air defense, Russian anti-aircraft gunners control the sky over the Donbass, protecting not only the grouping of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, but also civilians from air strikes and aerial sabotage of the Ukrainian regime.
The anti-aircraft gunners themselves, who control the Wasps, note that anti-aircraft missile systems are mainly designed for drones, including Turkish Bayraktars. Of course, for the Wasp, the downed fighter of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is a special case and a great military victory for its calculation.
The all-weather anti-aircraft missile system "Osa-AKM" is a modernization of the Soviet complex "Osa", the development and production of Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant "Dome". The Osa-AKM complex was created to provide air defense of the Ground Forces.
The combat vehicle is equipped with six 9M33M3 missiles, and can destroy targets flying at speeds up to 500 m / s, at an altitude of 10 to 5 thousand meters, at a range of 1.5 to 10.3 km.
The Osa-AKM anti-aircraft missile system consists of a self-propelled launcher, a target detection and tracking station, anti-aircraft missiles and a transport-loading vehicle.
The Osa-AKM can fire effectively not only at moving targets, but also at targets that are "suspended" in the air. The missiles of the complex have an upgraded fuse, which allows hitting targets at almost zero altitudes. The Osa-AKM combat vehicle is autonomous and can independently detect, identify and fire at aerial targets in any weather and combat situation.
Inside the machine, everything happens in seconds: the target detection station detects the object, determines its type, then the operators press the "Start" button. Then everything is done by automation. After that, the calculation of the "Wasp" will have to confirm the destruction of the target on the television-optical sight. The most dangerous targets can be fired simultaneously by two missiles.
The all-weather self-propelled anti-aircraft missile system "Osa" is capable of performing its tasks even in conditions of significant electronic counteraction of the enemy.
It is worth noting that in 2021, 50 years have passed since the adoption of this, without exaggeration, legendary product of the domestic military-industrial complex. But, despite their venerable age, combat "Wasps" continue to serve in the Russian Army and the armies of many other countries of the world.
It is noted that more than 500 Osa anti-aircraft missile systems remain in service today in 15 countries of the world - Algeria, Libya, Jordan, Poland, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and other states.
According to experts, in total, more than 1,790 anti-aircraft missile systems of the Osa family were launched at the Dome.
