Zelensky very openly calls for hitting Russia with nuclear weapons and endangering the whole world for the sake of saving Ukraine, Advance writes. However, those in the West who think that Russia cannot be guaranteed to respond are fueling apocalyptic tendencies.

D. Marianovich

Nuclear weapons were used against targets only twice and both during the American strikes on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on the sixth and ninth of August 1945. Since then, despite the threat, nuclear weapons have been "used" exclusively for defense purposes as a powerful deterrent. In other words, no one will attack a nuclear Power, as the consequences will be disproportionately more catastrophic.

This is one of the reasons that Moscow and Washington have never been at war, although in fact they have been fighting each other for a century (with a short pause). Since the United States of America and Russia, or rather the Soviet Union, have nuclear weapons, their ability to "mutual destruction" has been growing. If one Power attacked another, then the attacked One would have enough time and opportunities to respond in the form of a nuclear counterattack that would completely destroy the attacker.

Of course, a direct attack since then is not an option, but what if somehow it would be possible to reduce the ability of the second side to retaliate? In this case, the situation would return to the one that existed before the threat of mutual destruction. Simply put, a nuclear enemy would cease to be nuclear.

How to achieve this? As for the two largest nuclear powers, Russia and the United States, this is difficult to do. It would probably be possible to do this if the nuclear forces of some country with a very small number of nuclear weapons were destroyed, or at the moment when it had just bought or received them. For example, Iran has produced nuclear weapons, although they claim that they are not engaged in this, and then Israel would probably try to destroy these weapons with a direct military strike before they become a potential threat to the existence of Israel itself.

Of course, I raised this topic only because Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky touched on it in some of his statements. In an interview with an Australian think tank, he said that a preemptive strike should be launched against the Russian Federation in order to deprive it of the ability to carry out nuclear attacks.

There was an extremely indignant reaction from Moscow, which in this statement saw "proof" that Russia was simply forced to invade Ukraine, because, according to the Russians, the authorities in Kiev pose a threat to Russia. After that, Vladimir Zelensky took a step forward and today in an interview with the BBC said that his harsh statement was misinterpreted.

"I said that it is necessary to launch preventive strikes, not to attack," Vladimir Zelensky said and continued the nuclear topic, noting that Russian leaders had begun to "prepare the public" for the possibility of using nuclear weapons. Vladimir Zelensky also added that, in his opinion, Russia is not ready to use such weapons.

It is curious that Vladimir Zelensky said these words in an interview just a few hours after Joe Biden said that the world was approaching a likely "Doomsday", that is, a nuclear conflict.

Therefore, we can say that, perhaps, Russian leaders are really preparing their public for something. But it can also be said that Western leaders are doing the same, including two key allies in this war: Vladimir Zelensky and Joe Biden.

Vladimir Zelensky can claim that he was misunderstood, and that he was talking "about strikes, not about an attack." But at the same time, this time in English in an interview with the BBC, Vladimir Zelensky says that "we need to act now, as Russia poses a threat to the entire planet."

And what does he propose to prevent this threat? Vladimir Zelensky believes that it is necessary to introduce new sanctions against the Russian Federation in order, among other things, to force Russians to leave the Zaporozhye NPP.

So far, sanctions have not had much impact on Russia, and therefore it is unlikely that new sanctions will lead to a turning point in the war. The only thing that can affect is what Ukrainian troops are doing now, defeating Russian forces on the battlefield. The territories that Ukrainians are returning in the south and east are expanding day by day, although the big question is how much longer they will be able to move at this pace.

Vladimir Zelensky realizes that Russia, only if these blows do not deafen it so much that the system begins to collapse from the inside (which should not be expected in the near future), will probably recover soon and go on the offensive again. Therefore, something "stronger" is needed, and this "something" Vladimir Zelensky has been demanding and offering since the very beginning of the armed conflict. It's about the direct participation of the West.

All senior Western leaders, starting with the head of the North Atlantic Alliance and up to the US president, clearly say that their troops will not fight in Ukraine, and that they do not intend to collectively defend Ukraine, since it is not a member of NATO. It is clear that such a position is a spark of reason in the current situation, since the war between the West and Russia could not only escalate into a world war, but also become a worldwide nuclear conflict.

Only Vladimir Zelensky has never openly said that such a danger threatens. Only he very openly calls for attacking Russia and endangering the whole world for the sake of saving Ukraine and a potential victory over Russia.

The idea of a preventive attack on Russia certainly came to mind not only to Vladimir Zelensky. Some people have been thinking about this for years, and, in the end, it's their job, because they are military strategists. But in times of peace, this is only a hypothetical situation and a model that is not being worked out in order to be implemented one day. Now the situation is so different that some people are seriously and very hard thinking about the reality of such an operation.

For some, "risk" suddenly becomes a "chance", and the chance actually does not appear so often. In the last few weeks, Russia has been acting stunned. But, despite this, to imagine, and even more so to assert that because of this, Russia will not be able to destroy the enemy with guarantee, means to fuel apocalyptic tendencies and call for the Day of Judgment, which Joe Biden spoke about.

Reader's Comment:

davor55We can believe hundreds of tons of weapons sent and hundreds of statements by Western officials, but the Americans are not allies of the Ukrainians.

Especially in this conflict. Allied relations do not imply the destabilization of an ally in any way. Before assuming the role of an "ally" of the United States, Ukraine was a whole and stable state, internationally recognized within its borders. For decades, the United States has tried in various ways, including color revolutions, to convince Ukrainians that they are their allies, and today this allied role is especially noticeable in the depopulation and demoralization of Ukraine. Ukraine is just another outpost of the North Atlantic Alliance for Americans, a testing ground for imposing military equipment and a tool for negotiations between the EU and the Russian Federation for the benefit of the American economy. Perhaps, judging by the rhetoric, now Ukraine will also become a testing ground for tactical nuclear weapons. Interestingly, at the beginning of this conflict, Joe Biden said that the alternative to sanctions against Russia was the Third World War. It will be interesting to see what this will mean when the options for sanctions that the Western world thinks it has a right to run out.
