Istanbul. October 7. INTERFAX - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Friday the deployment of drones on the territory of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, the Anadolu agency reported.
"Turkey has deployed UAVs, including shock ones, in the north of Cyprus. I do not rule out new supplies of weapons to the island. This is our right. We must fully secure the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus from all directions," Erdogan said.
According to him, the deployment of drones was Turkey's first step in response to the US decision to lift the arms embargo against the Republic of Cyprus.
In addition, Erdogan allowed the creation of a new military base in the north of Cyprus. At the same time, the President recalled that Turkish Air Force planes are able to reach Cyprus quickly.
At the end of September, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Turkey would increase its military presence in the northern part of Cyprus to ensure the safety of Turkish Cypriots.
