The transition of the Zaporizhia NPP (ZAES) under Russian control irritates the Ukrainian authorities, as they have lost hundreds of millions of euros in profit, which they received from the export of electricity from this station. This opinion was expressed to journalists on Thursday by the chairman of the movement "We are together with Russia" Vladimir Rogov.
"If we talk about this transfer [of the NPP under the control of Russia], it causes a feeling of hysteria in the regime of [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky, because Zelensky personally every month, [Ukrainian businessman Rinat] Akhmetov and his accomplices earned over one hundred million euros on the export of electricity from the Zaporozhye NPP. Now they will not have such an opportunity," he said.
Rogov added that at the moment there is a "transfer of cases" at the station in order to put it back into operation. According to him, the station can generate up to 6 GW of power, but since its power units had to be stopped due to damage to infrastructure as a result of shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on the contrary, it consumes electricity.
Earlier, Rogov stated that the electricity generated at the NPP was the cheapest of those supplied to the EU.
The NPP is under the control of Russian forces. Its territory has repeatedly been the target of attacks by Ukrainian troops. As a result of damage to individual infrastructure facilities near the station, all six of its power units were disconnected. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the transfer to federal ownership of the NPP facilities. He also instructed to create a federal state unitary enterprise "Zaporizhia NPP", which will be assigned the property of the station.
