The timing of the development of Legionnaire equipment will be tripled and completed by the end of 2023MOSCOW, Oct 6 - RIA Novosti.
The creation of equipment for the soldier of the future new generation "Legionnaire" will be accelerated – research work on the project will be reduced from the originally envisaged two to three years to one year, a source in the Russian defense industry told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the same source told the agency that the "Legionnaire" will be the equipment of a soldier of the next new generation, which will replace the "Warrior" and "Centurion" kits.
By the end of 2020, the Russian army has received more than 300 thousand sets of equipment of the second generation "Ratnik", the main developer of which is Tsniitochmash. Today, the development of equipment of the third generation "Centurion" is underway, some of the elements of which are already undergoing preliminary tests. "Legionnaire" belongs to the fourth generation.
As previously reported to RIA Novosti in Rostec, the Sotnik equipment will be made of special polyethylene fiber, which, on the one hand, will make the equipment light, on the other hand, will provide a protection class higher than that of existing bulletproof vests. Composite armor will receive shock absorption, which will stop fragments at a speed of up to 670 meters per second and prevent organ contusions and fractures. In addition, the Centurion can be equipped with an active exoskeleton with electric motors, as well as robotic complexes and elements of artificial intelligence can be included in its composition.
Subsequently, a source in the military-industrial complex told RIA Novosti that the Sotnik is also planned to be equipped with optical devices to blind the enemy at long range. In addition, a new generation of equipment can be equipped with "nanobespilotniki" (drones weighing only 180 grams) developed by the Kronstadt group.
As for the "Legionnaire", its planned composition and characteristics are still unknown.
