TSAMTO, October 4. On September 30, the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defense signed a contract with the Polish company WB Group for the purchase of WARMATE barrage ammunition for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to Deputy Minister of National Defense Vilius Semeshka, two sets of WARMATE, including launchers and 37 barrage ammunition, will be purchased in Poland.
The Ministry of National Defense acted as an intermediary in the purchase of ammunition with money collected by Lithuanian citizens. Funds raised during a crowdfunding campaign organized by Lithuanian journalist Andrius Tapinas will be used to purchase WARMATE. More than 2 million euros were raised as part of the Legion of Boom initiative. Half of these funds will be spent on the purchase of barrage ammunition. The remaining amount will be used to purchase UJ-23 Topaz barrage ammunition manufactured by Ukrainian Ukrjet.
The purchase of WARMATE was agreed upon during the August visit of Vilius Semeshka to Warsaw, where he held talks with representatives of the WB Group. 10 of the 37 ammunition will be supplied to WB Group free of charge. It is expected that the manufacturer will hand over the WARMATE kits in October-November 2022.
In July, the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense has already handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine the Bayraktar TB2 reconnaissance and strike UAV of the Turkish company Baykar and a set of ammunition for it. Funds for the supply of this UAV were also collected on the initiative of A.Tapinas.
The wingspan of the basic version of the WARMATE 1 barrage munition is 1.6 m, the length of the fuselage is 1.1 m, the maximum take–off weight is 5.7 kg, the mass of the warhead is 1.4 kg, the range in the line of sight is 30 km, the duration of the flight is 60 minutes, the maximum speed during the attack is 150 km/h.
