Our leaders risk Armageddon over UkraineIn the West, no one is interested in a military clash with Russia, except Poland and a handful of people in Washington, former adviser to the US Secretary of Defense Douglas McGregor said in an interview with Fox News.
As for Putin, according to the expert, he wants to settle the conflict on favorable terms for Moscow.
Will Kane: We are joined by former adviser to the US Secretary of Defense, retired Colonel Douglas McGregor. Colonel, good evening. What can you say about this whirlwind of news around the conflict between Russia and Ukraine?
Douglas McGregor: Russia is clearly not behind the pipeline attacks. No one believes in it at all. In fact, the overwhelming majority of citizens of the same Germany are against any kind of military action against Russia and do not even allow the idea that the Russians are responsible for the incident.
I would like to note three points. First of all, Putin decided that no one in Washington would talk to him, and he knows that it is the United States that controls the situation. As a result, he considered that he would have to escalate the military operation as a retaliatory measure. Few people in the West know, but Russian troops in Ukraine have been in the minority since the very first day they arrived there. Now the situation will change dramatically.
I suspect that in the case of the bombers you mentioned, which can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads, the choice will be made in favor of the first option. It is them that the Russian side will use as part of the upcoming escalation in Ukraine.
I think he [Putin] wants to settle the conflict on favorable terms for Russia, from which we [the West] are unlikely to be delighted. But among the NATO countries, no one is interested in a military clash with Russia, except perhaps Poland. If we continue to bend our line, it will only be to witness the disintegration and division of NATO into parts.
Will Kane: Do you think that they will not follow the example of Poland and will not unite in the future? Do I understand you correctly, Colonel?
Douglas McGregor: Of course, there is no doubt about it. No one wants to go to war with Russia, except Poland and a handful of people in Washington.
Will Kane: This will be the key moment. If the world does not follow the Poles to war with Russia, it will be pushed to this by American leaders. Colonel Douglas MacGregor was with us. It was nice talking to you.
