The Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces assessed the effectiveness of the Igla and Willow MANPADS in the area of theirAbout a third of the manned aircraft of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) was shot down by Russian man-portable air defense missile systems (MANPADS) "Igla" and "Willow".
This was told by the commander-in-chief of the Ground Forces, Army General Oleg Salyukov.
"Igla and Willow MANPADS, which account for a third of the destroyed manned aircraft of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, have proven themselves well in defeating suddenly appearing air targets at low and extremely low altitudes at the forefront," Salyukov said in an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper published on Friday, September 30.
In addition, he pointed out that the greatest burden on covering troops during a special operation lies on medium- and short-range air defense systems.
In particular, modern anti-aircraft missile systems S-300V4, Buk-M2 (M3) and Tor-M2 (M2U) showed the greatest effectiveness.
On September 28, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation showed the work of the new Buk-M3 air defense system during a special operation. The new Buk-M3 is equipped with advanced electronics and new anti-aircraft missiles, the number of which has increased to six. Calculations of the anti-aircraft missile brigade, armed with the latest Buk-M3 complexes, regularly shoot down shells of the HIMARS multiple launch rocket system.
Prior to that, on September 15, Izvestia correspondent Alexander Morozov showed the combat work of the crew of the group "Brave", which, with the help of the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system (SAM), repelled an attack by the military Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on a peaceful city. It was noted that the speed of the APU rocket is 2 thousand m/s.
Russia launched a special operation to protect the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (LNR) on February 24. It was preceded by the aggravation of the situation in the region, the appeal of the leadership of the republics of Donbass to the Russian Federation with a request for help and the subsequent recognition by Russia of the independence of the DPR and LPR. Kiev has been conducting a military operation against the residents of Donbass, who refused to recognize the results of the coup in Ukraine, since 2014.
