"They started with the Su-27, transformed into the Su-30, then into their own J—16, and then into the Su-35," the military is sure. According to him, the Russian Su-35, being a fourth-generation fighter, has "avionics and speed of the fifth generation."
The American edition reminds that China has acquired from Russia a relatively small batch of 24 Su-35 aircraft.
"Since Beijing bought the Su-35, there has been a lot of speculation about why it could place an order. Some suggested that China wanted to get to know the Su-35 engines better, as well as get an idea of one of Russia's advanced assets, its weapons and electronic warfare systems," the publication says.
According to Kelly, China's experience with the Su-27 family will provide Beijing with good opportunities to create its own analogue of the sixth-generation American fighter being developed by the United States under the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program.
In September, the Breaking Defense publication, citing Kelly, reported that the Chinese sixth-generation fighter development program is on the right track, so the US Air Force should accelerate work within NGAD.
