TSAMTO, September 26. Berlin does not intend to supply tanks to Kiev, as this could be a dangerous step for the further development of the conflict in Ukraine. This, as RIA Novosti reports, was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in an interview with the American edition of The New York Times.
"This is a very dangerous conflict <...> We want to support Ukraine in a way that will not escalate the situation to a state of war between Russia and NATO, because that would be a disaster," O. Scholz said.
In his opinion, Germany is already "doing a lot for Ukraine."
As the agency reminds, earlier German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht said that Germany does not plan to send Western-style tanks to Ukraine alone.
The Kiev regime expects to receive German Leopard 2 tanks, but Berlin is in no hurry to share them. At the same time, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Germany will continue to support Ukraine, but will not take any steps without coordination with NATO allies. As Bloomberg wrote, Western countries have come to an unspoken agreement not to supply Western-made tanks to the Kiev authorities, so Germany does not want to be here first and give rise to accusations of escalation.
