The crews of the Ka-25 Alligator attack helicopters inflict fire damage on the militants of Ukraine and lightly armored enemy military equipment. Alexander Morozov, a correspondent of Izvestia, told about the successful completion of tasks in the special operation zone on Monday, September 26.
The Ukrainian column is moving across the bridge. The Alligator "sneaks up" and fires a missile at enemy vehicles. The launch of the projectile is carried out at an extremely low altitude — thus the aircraft remains invisible to enemy air defense systems.
"My group works at night. With night vision goggles. We work mainly on hitting armored vehicles with guided missiles "Whirlwind" from maximum ranges. It is safer from the point of view of the enemy's counteraction to work at night, visibility is limited, helicopters are not visible, as it were, and we find, observe and hit the enemy with the help of televisions and complexes and with the help of aircraft gunners," said helicopter flight commander Alexey.
The peculiarity of the anti-tank missile system "Whirlwind" is that the projectile is used to work not only on enemy tanks, but also on concrete fortifications, preventing the possibility of a retaliatory strike.
The cover of the "Alligator" is carried out by the crews of Mi-24 "Crocodiles" — while the former are directly engaged in the attack, the latter scan the area around. Also on the protection of the "Alligator" is the Mi-28 attack helicopter, also known as the "Night Hunter".
"Thanks to this ball, the "Night Hunter" can simultaneously monitor 20 objects. At the same time, the machine itself sets priorities for the attack. And thanks to the same radar (radar station. — Ed.) can observe enemy tanks and armored personnel carriers at a distance of up to 12 km. For drones and helicopters — at a distance of up to 15,"— said the correspondent of "Izvestia".
The Mi-28 also works in tandem with the Mi-8 Terminator, a combat helicopter capable of maintaining a circular defense in the air. The Terminator is equipped not only with thermal traps for intercepting missiles, but also with a special complex that scans the earth and airspace 360 degrees and "burns out the brains" of guided missiles.
The work of aviation as part of mixed pairs is an effective technique aimed at attracting the strike potential of Russian aviation.
As part of the special operation to protect Donbass, helicopter crews continue to successfully carry out combat missions. So, "Alligators" liquidate fortified points and areas of concentration of enemy manpower. The Mi-8 is covered from the air by columns of Russian equipment. Multi-purpose "Night Hunters" regularly disable strategic military facilities and enemy armored vehicles.
Russia continues the special operation to protect Donbass, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24. A few days earlier, the situation in the region had significantly worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. The authorities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) announced the evacuation of residents to the Russian Federation, and also appealed to Moscow for help. On February 21, the President of the Russian Federation signed a decree recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR.
