MOSCOW, 24 Sep — RIA Novosti. The Russian army tested the Tu-214R reconnaissance aircraft after repairs to open Ukrainian military facilities, an informed source told RIA Novosti.
"One of the two aviation complexes of radio engineering and optical reconnaissance Tu-214R was used to detect Ukrainian military facilities after the completion of the current repair. This aircraft is capable of detecting and promptly transmitting to ground command posts the coordinates and type of military objects of various classes, including radar stations, command posts, communication centers, columns of military equipment and others," the agency interlocutor explained.
According to open data, two Tu-214R reconnaissance aircraft are in service with the Russian army.
The military vehicle was created at the Gorbunov Kazan Aviation Production Association on the basis of the Tu-214 civil airliner, the main developer of reconnaissance equipment is Vega Concern, part of Roselectronics.
The aircraft is equipped with several circular and side-view radar stations, radio and electronic reconnaissance systems, as well as a high-resolution electron-optical system, which, in particular, allows you to take pictures of ground targets in the visible and infrared ranges.
At least one of the Tu-214R took part in a special operation in Syria.
