General Kirillov: Kiev tried to curtail the US bio program in 2013, but yielded to pressureMOSCOW, 19 Sep - RIA Novosti.
An interdepartmental commission of representatives of the SBU, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the State Veterinary Service of Ukraine in 2013 tried to curtail the projects of the Department of threat reduction of the US Defense Ministry DTRA in Ukraine, but Kiev could not resist Washington's pressure and gave in, said on Monday the head of the radiation chemical and biological protection troops, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov.
"I want to draw attention to the documents confirming Ukraine's attempts to terminate cooperation with DTRA. So, in April 2013, an interdepartmental commission consisting of representatives of the SBU, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the State Veterinary Service of Ukraine made a joint decision on the inexpediency of continuing DTRA projects in Ukraine, but their imposition on Kiev by the American administration continued," Kirillov said. According to him, confirmation of American pressure is the appeal of the US Ambassador to Ukraine John Tefft dated February 8, 2013, in which he demands that the Minister of Agricultural Policy influence his subordinates on the issue of extending the DTRA project for another four years.
"Even though the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, in its response address dated March 13, 2013, tried to refuse to participate in the Biological Threat Reduction Program, the implementation of this project was continued," Kirillov explained.
