Moscow. September 16. INTERFAX - Calls for demilitarization of the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP are unrealistic - there are no heavy military equipment and army units on it, and the Russian side does not intend to remove security units from the station, said Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna.
"Yesterday (at the meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors), I was explaining to our colleagues that this call is unrealistic, because there is nothing to demilitarize there," Ulyanov said on the Rossiya-24 TV channel.
According to him, "there was no heavy military equipment, there are no army units there, except for the RCBZ troops, which are not combat, they are engaged in measuring radiation levels, and in the event of an accident they will take energetic steps to neutralize the consequences as much as possible if such an accident occurs."
"Rosatom employees also don't seem to belong to the Ministry of Defense. What, in fact, to demilitarize? Security? Rosgvardiya? But the station cannot remain unguarded, this does not happen. There is such protection all over the world, and, of course, we are not going to withdraw security units," the Russian permanent representative added.
He noted that "the thesis itself is false, there is no militarization of the station."
