Poland is going to buy equipment to create more than twenty new air defense batteries

Soon the Polish authorities intend to sign another big deal for defence procurement. About it reports the edition Defence24.pl citing unofficial sources. We are talking about the purchase of machinery for the formation of 21 new battery defense Pilica. These systems are mainly produced ZM Tarnów, in the new version will be used by the CAMM missile from MBDA.

The putting into service of the air defense of Poland, new batteries will expand the range of from 6.5 km to 25 km. a Contract to supply a new variant of batteries Pilica worth billions of dollars will be signed in early September. The negotiations on the conclusion of the contract has come to an end, however, the terms of the contract may increase slightly due to the need to comply with formal requirements.

New batteries AA will provide a layered air defense against cruise missiles (including supersonic), aircraft and helicopters, and UAVs. The contract runs until 2027. By this time the Polish air defenses will get 21 new battery system Pilica+. The contract also involves the acquisition for the needs of air defense of the country adequate supply of missiles CAMM (about 700).

The main purpose of this air defense system is to work together with batteries of the Patriot system to Polish or deployed by the allies at the Warsaw NATO. In the basic configuration of the air defense system Pilica includes radar, and six anti-aircraft missile complexes of Zur-23-2 23 mm guns and MANPADS with an advanced fire control system on the basis of optoelectronics, as well as logistics and support.

As claimed by Defence24, in the process of work was expanded to fire control of air defense, including the opportunity to confront multiple threats. Now Poland hopes to create a system VSHORAD/SHORAD, can effectively protect the batteries Patriot and at the same time to act against multiple threats.

According to the publication, the defense system of the Pilica+ will be another step toward strengthening the Polish defense. Now Warszawa deploys a new unit of the air defense, puts into operation a large number of new technology. In 2022 Poland for the first time will receive the air defense system of the new generation with a range of more than 7 kilometers.
