The first Russian radar satellite of naval intelligence "Pion-NKS" has passed state tests, has been accepted for experimental combat duty and has begun monitoring foreign military activities, a source in the rocket and space industry told RIA Novosti.
The source recalled that the "Pion-NKS" is a spacecraft of the new Russian global satellite marine space reconnaissance and targeting "Liana", designed to monitor the World Ocean, determine the deployment of enemy ships, primarily aircraft carrier strike groups, and issue accurate operational targeting to Navy strike weapons to defeat ships.
According to open data, the satellite was launched into space in June 2021. It was created by the Progress Rocket and Space Center (part of Roscosmos), its radar station was created by Vega Concern (part of Roselektronika).
