The head of Energodar announced the hit of a Ukrainian projectile into the power unit of the NPP The authorities of Energodar stated that one of the artillery shells fired by the Armed Forces of Ukraine hit an idle power unit of the Zaporozhye NPP.
It is not specified when exactly the hit occurred. At the same time, the safety system of the power units of the station has a multi-layered protection structure - it cannot be penetrated with one hit. For the shelling of the NPP, Ukrainian troops use missiles made in the United States, the city administration added.
The authorities of Energodar recorded a hit in one of the power units of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZAES). This was stated by the head of the city administration Alexander Volga, reports TASS.
A representative of the pro-Russian authorities of Energodar did not specify when exactly the hit occurred.
He stressed that the safety system of the NPP power units has a structure that cannot be penetrated by a single shell hit.
"But nevertheless the fact remains. What will they think to shoot from next time? We need to make some decisions within the framework of all these events," the official said.
The radiation background is regularly measured at the Zaporozhye NPP, so far it is normal.
Recently, the Russian media and officials, as well as the leadership of Energodar, regularly declare the shelling of the Zaporozhye NPP by the Ukrainian Armed Forces from artillery.
Last Thursday, the IAEA mission headed by the Director General of the international agency, Rafael Grossi, visited ZAES and Energodar. Following the trip, the official said that the integrity of the station's facilities is of concern against the background of increasingly active hostilities in its area. Currently, the staff of the IAEA mission remains at the largest nuclear power plant in Europe to monitor the situation.
Made in America
Fragments of American-made missiles were found on the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP after shelling from the Ukrainian side, said Alexander Volga, head of the Energodar administration.
"[The fragments] correspond to the American multiple launch rocket system, missiles manufactured by other Western countries, artillery shells fired from the M-777 howitzer," he said.
Volga added that the Ukrainian military is also shelling the town of Energodar controlled by the Russian Armed Forces.
On September 3, the fifth power unit of the Zaporozhye NPP was shut down after the shelling of communication lines, the Ukrainian state enterprise Energoatom reported.
"On the evening of September 3, 2022, at 19:35, the power unit No. 5 of the NPP was disconnected from the power grid," the message says.
They added that currently the sixth power unit continues to operate, which with limited capacity supplies electricity to Ukraine through a backup line, and also provides for the needs of the station.
