The attempt of an unsuccessful counteroffensive near Kherson was carried out on the direct instructions of Vladimir Zelensky, the Russian Defense Ministry said. Experts note that Kiev has used reserves that have undergone retraining on equipment supplied by the West. On the same day, Russian aviation struck with precision weapons at the control point of the Vostok air command of the Ukrainian Air Force and the field camps of nationalist battalions. The territorial defense of the DPR reported the liberation of the village of Kodema, lying on the way to Artemovsk. Before the arrival of the IAEA delegation, Ukrainian formations continued shelling the Zaporozhye NPP.
From the Krivoy Rog side
On the direct instructions of Vladimir Zelensky, on August 29, Ukrainian troops attempted an offensive in the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions in three directions, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday evening.
— As a result of the active defense of the grouping of Russian troops, the units of the VFU suffered heavy losses. During the fighting, 26 Ukrainian tanks, 23 infantry fighting vehicles, nine other armored combat vehicles were destroyed, two Su-25 attack aircraft were shot down. The enemy lost more than 560 servicemen," the military department said.
Ukrainian preparations for a counteroffensive in the Kherson region were not a secret for the Russian command, military expert Vladislav Shurygin believes.

— President Zelensky gave an order about his planning back in early July, — he reminded Izvestia. — Then troops were transferred there, including reserves who received Western armored vehicles and were trained. Our troops constantly attacked these forces in Mykolaiv and the surrounding area. At the same time, they did not consciously take active actions in order to lure the enemy out. It is easier to grind it in an unsuccessful offensive than in defense, on strong points well buried in the ground.
The enemy tried to attack not on Kherson itself, but to the northeast of it, from Krivoy Rog and positions along the Ingulets River, Vladislav Shurygin specified.
— The command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine hoped to break through to Berislav and Novaya Kakhovka, or at least approach them at a distance of an artillery shot to block the supply routes through the dam of the hydroelectric power station. That is why missile strikes from the VFU have intensified there in the last day. The deafening failure of the offensive demonstrates that the Ukrainian forces are not capable of such operations now," the expert explained.
A blow to the headquarters
On the same day, the DPR territorial Defense command announced the liberation of the village of Kodema by Allied troops 10 km south of the city of Artemovsk. In total, since the beginning of the special operation on the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic, the grouping of the DPR and LPR troops with the fire support of the Russian Armed Forces has liberated 271 settlements, the department reported.

Attack on saboteurs
The Russian Defense Ministry told about the soldiers and officers who showed courage and dedication during the special operation.
Major Ilya Khudin's artillery division was supporting Russian units when Ilya discovered enemy firing points. Personally correcting artillery fire, Khudin organized sudden strikes on militant targets. As a result, three armored personnel carriers, four artillery pieces, including Western-made ones, and up to 30 nationalists were destroyed. Ilya Khudin's competent actions allowed Russian units to develop an offensive, the Defense Ministry said.
The unit of junior Sergeant Alexander Politov defended the settlement from Ukrainian nationalists. The militants, trying to regain their lost positions, tried to break through the defense and capture the positions of the unit with the support of mortar fire.

Alexander fired at the enemy from a tank, was wounded, provided himself with medical assistance and continued to fire at the nationalists.
"As a result of the courageous and selfless actions of Junior Sergeant Politov, the task of defending the settlement was completed," the military department stressed.
A group of paratroopers of Corporal Jargal Batorov guarded the columns of Russian units. On the route, Jargal discovered disguised positions of Ukrainian nationalists. He reported to the commander about the impending attack, deployed the group in battle formation and attacked enemy positions. The corporal's group destroyed ten nationalists.
Batorov's bold and decisive actions contributed to the suppression of the activities of enemy saboteurs in a given area, which allowed the column to march on time and without losses, the Defense Ministry noted.
