Moscow. August 29. INTERFAX-AVN - Joint actions for the defense of maritime communications will be carried out in the Sea of Japan by Russian and Chinese ships during the strategic command and staff exercise "Vostok-2022", the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported.
"In the waters of the Sea of Japan, joint practical actions for the defense of maritime communications and areas of maritime economic activity, assistance to land forces in the Primorsky direction will be worked out by groups of forces of the Pacific Fleet and the naval forces of the People's Republic of China," the message says.
The Vostok-2022 SKSHU will be held from September 1 to 7 under the leadership of the Chief of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov at seven ranges of the Eastern Military District, as well as in the waters and coastal zones of the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan.
More than 50 thousand servicemen will be involved in the maneuvers, which will take place with the participation of contingents of partner countries, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported.
"From the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, military authorities and troops of the Eastern Military District, part of the Airborne forces, long-range and military transport aviation will take part in the SKSHU," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
