Iran showed the new Karrar tank during the visit of the chief justice of Iran, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje at the exhibition of achievements of the Iranian army. The photo was posted in the local press.
The prototype tank Karrar was presented by the Iranian military in 2017. As stated, it was created on the basis of the Soviet T-72, licensed Assembly which was established by Iran in the 1990-ies, however, its characteristics are closer to the tank T-90, about than a claim many foreign experts. Despite the similarity with Russian tanks, the Iranian MBT got the original turret and armor.
Karrar is an Iranian development, which used the "most advanced technology" such as a laser rangefinder, the electro-optical fire control system, which allows high efficiency to hit stationary and moving targets. It is equipped with a 125 mm smoothbore gun, capable of using anti-tank missiles. The tower hosts the autoloader carousel. Mounted on a tower remotely-controlled weapon station with a 7.62 mm machine gun.
