Russia's program to create its own space station is already in operation, Roscosmos showed a mock-up of a new Russian orbital station during the Army-2022 International Military-Technical Forum.
The station will provide a better view of the Earth from outer space than the current Russian part of the ISS.
A model of Russia's future own space station was presented for the first time at the military-industrial exhibition held in the suburbs of the Moscow region.
A report about this appeared in many international media, in particular, published a story that Russia intends to create its own, independent space station, and the well-known publication "The Sun". As a result of the sanctions imposed by Western states, companies and organizations against Russia in connection with the problem of Ukraine, the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) has decided to leave the International Space Station (ISS) and cease cooperation with international space organizations, including NASA.
Following this, Roscosmos decides to build its own space station, where Russian cosmonauts will work and where Russia will implement its own space exploration programs. The Russian media, talking about the plans of Roscosmos, gave the future Russian space station the prefix "Rus-", in the English-speaking manner it will receive the name "Ross-". Just as a number of reputable Russian publications suggest, the first stage of the construction of the Russian space station will be completed by 2030. At the same time, according to the new Director General of Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov, at the moment Russia continues to cooperate with the ISS and will remain there at least until 2024.
On the other hand, Kathy Luders, recently appointed head of NASA's manned space flight programs, suggested that Russia would remain on the ISS anyway and cooperate with it until the construction of its own space station was fully completed.
The ISS originated in 1998, and NASA hopes that it is in this international capacity that the station will continue to carry out its mission until at least 2030.
In its current form, the ISS actually functions in two parts: one of them is the Russian segment, the other acts as the American modular part. Now both Russian cosmonauts and cosmonauts from European countries are working on the ISS.
For the first time, Russia presented a mock-up of its own space station during the International Military-Technical Assembly "Army-2022", held at the Patriot Congress and Exhibition Center in the Moscow region.
It is reported that the design of the Russian station presented at the exhibition will provide a better view of the Earth from outer space than the current Russian part of the ISS. It is also assumed that the future Russian space station will be able to receive astronauts twice a year.
It should also be noted that the former head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, suggested the possibility of using the new space station for military purposes.
