Artemyev and Matveev completed their spacewalk ahead of schedule and returned to the ISS. Problems with the spacesuit led to the fact that the extravehicular work of the Russian cosmonauts ended ahead of schedule.
Oleg Artemyev was the first to return to the ISS, followed by Denis Matveev to the airlock compartment. About what happened in outer space - in the material of "Gazeta.Ru".
Russian cosmonauts Oleg Artemyev and Denis Matveev completed their spacewalk ahead of schedule, Roscosmos reported in its Telegram channel. The decision to return to the International Space Station was made by the Mission Control Center.
"The crew is feeling well. The unfinished work will be completed during the next spacewalks," the state corporation reports.
Earlier, Artemyev, who is also a special correspondent of TASS, was forced to complete a spacewalk due to problems with his spacesuit.
"Oleg, this is a very low voltage, you urgently need to return. Because if the battery runs out completely, it's not just a pump, a fan, the connection may disappear," the MCC employee told the cosmonaut during the negotiations.
After that, the cosmonaut "returned to the airlock compartment and connected to the halyard to provide power to the spacesuit" (Artemyev used Orlan-ISS No. 5 with red stripes).
It is noted that nothing threatens the astronaut's health.
Denis Matveev, who was dressed in Orlan-ISS No. 4 with blue stripes, also returned to the airlock after Artemyev.
"Denis, we are starting to move towards the airlock compartment. Do not rush. Get to the installation from under the cameras, and we will take the installation with us there," said the specialist of the Mission Control Center.
Artemyev and Matveev went into space through the exit hatch of the ISS Search module. As part of the Russian extravehicular activity program, they must prepare for operation the European ERA manipulator, which is controlled remotely, serving the Russian segment.
They had to install two TV cameras and detach the starting rings from the two end effectors of ERA to make the manipulator lighter. In addition, the astronauts had to move the external remote control and test the manipulator control and, if there was time left, perform several more tasks, including changing the frame with protective glasses on one of the video cameras.
The duration of the spacewalk was supposed to be about seven hours, but ended after almost four hours. This was the fifth spacewalk for Russian cosmonauts in 2022.
The previous time extravehicular work was carried out on the night of July 21-22. Then Artemyev and European Space Agency astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti went into outer space. They spent more than seven hours on the outer side of the ISS. During this time, Artemyev and Cristoforetti launched 10 nanosatellites, removed them from the Search module and moved platforms with adapters to Nauka. The ERA adapter was installed on the "Search", switching its control panel to storage mode.
