As explained by the military, the UK has applied for the flight of the RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft of the Royal Air Force on a route passing, including, over the territory of Russia. The Ministry of Defense warned London that they consider this application as a deliberate provocation and stated that all the consequences of deliberate actions will lie solely on the UK. The Russian Aerospace Forces received an order to prevent violations of the airspace.

Recall that on the eve of the British RC-135 radio intelligence and electronic warfare aircraft "probed" the Russian air defense in the North, violating the airspace of the Russian Federation near Cape Svyatoy Nos in the Barents Sea. The air defense forces on duty lifted a MIG-31BM interceptor fighter into the air, which forced the British aircraft out of Russian airspace.
Apparently, London did not understand the warning and intend to arrange another provocation, the consequences of which can be quite serious, up to the destroyed aircraft.
