The President of the Russian Federation noted in his address that the West needs conflicts to retain power

PATRIOT PARK /Moscow region/, August 16. /tass/. Western countries are trying to preserve the "hegemony that is slipping out of their hands," but the era of the unipolar world order is becoming a thing of the past. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday in his address to the participants and guests of the X Moscow Conference on International Security.

As the head of state noted, the West needs conflicts to retain power, so the United States and its allies actively interfere in the affairs of other countries and organize provocations and civil wars. The hegemony of the West means stagnation for the whole world. However, it is possible to reduce tensions and overcome common threats by strengthening the system of the modern multipolar world. Russia will continue to take steps to build a more democratic world and improve the existing mechanisms of international security.

TASS has collected Putin's main statements.

About the multipolar world order

The contours of a multipolar world order are actively being formed: "More and more countries and peoples are choosing the path of free, sovereign development based on their identity, traditions, values."

The objective processes of the formation of a multipolar world "are opposed by Western globalist elites, provoking chaos, fomenting old and new conflicts, implementing a policy of so-called containment, and in fact - undermining any alternative, sovereign ways of development."

Globalist elites "are trying with all their might to preserve the hegemony and power that is slipping out of their hands, trying to keep countries and peoples in the grip of a neocolonial order by its nature." "Their hegemony means stagnation for the whole world, for the whole civilization, obscurantism and the abolition of culture, neoliberal totalitarianism."

The era of the unipolar world order is becoming a thing of the past. "It is possible to reduce tensions in the world, overcome threats and risks in the military-political sphere, increase the level of trust between countries and ensure their sustainable development only by radically strengthening the system of the modern multipolar world."

About Ukraine

Western countries need conflicts "to maintain their hegemony." "That is why they prepared the fate of cannon fodder for the people of Ukraine, implemented the anti-Russia project, turned a blind eye to the spread of neo-Nazi ideology, mass killings of Donbass residents, pumped up and continue to pump up the Kiev regime with weapons, including heavy ones."

Under these conditions, Russia decided to conduct a special military operation in Ukraine in full compliance with the UN Charter. "The objectives of this operation are clearly and clearly defined - it is to ensure the security of Russia and our citizens, to protect the residents of Donbass from genocide."

"The situation in Ukraine shows that the United States is trying to prolong this conflict. And they act in the same way, fueling the potential for conflict in Asia, Africa, Latin America."

About the actions of the West

"The United States and its vassals rudely interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign states: they organize provocations, coups d'etat, civil wars. By threats, blackmail and pressure, they are trying to force independent states to obey their will, to live by rules that are alien to them."

The goal of the West is "to maintain its dominance, the model that allows it to parasitize the whole world, as it was for centuries before, and such a model can only be held by force."

The West has ignored Russia's proposals on mutual security measures. At the same time, NATO is moving East, building up its military infrastructure. "In words, this hypocritically declares the need to strengthen security in Europe, but in fact the opposite is happening."

Aggressive military-political alliances, for example, AUKUS (Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States), are being formed by the West in order to "extend its block system to the Asia-Pacific region by analogy with NATO in Europe."

The trip of the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan is a carefully planned provocation. "The United States has once again deliberately tried to add fuel to the fire and shake up the situation in the Asia-Pacific region. The American adventure in relation to Taiwan is not just a trip of an individual irresponsible politician, but part of a purposeful, conscious strategy of the United States to destabilize and chaotic the situation in the region and the world, a brazen demonstration of disrespect for the sovereignty of other countries and their international obligations."

With such actions, Western countries are trying to divert the attention of citizens from acute socio-economic problems and shift their own failures to Russia, to China. "The so-called collective West is purposefully destroying the European security system."

About Russia's plans

Russia, together with its allies, will continue to "improve existing international security mechanisms and create new ones, consistently strengthen national armed forces and other security structures, increasing their equipment with modern weapons and military equipment."

The Russian Federation will also continue to ensure its national interests and protect its allies, "take other steps to build a more democratic world."

It is necessary to "restore respect for international law, for its fundamental norms and principles." It is important to strengthen the positions of the UN and other international dialogue platforms.

"The UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly, as originally conceived, should serve as effective tools for reducing international tension and preventing conflicts, and contribute to ensuring reliable security and well-being of countries and peoples."
